Christian Mortensen was born in Norway in 1979, and studied the Double Bass bass in Oslo with Knut Guettler and Dan Styffe, and in Berlin with Janne Saksala.

For several years and alongside these classical studies, he was also active as a jazz bassist, band leader and conductor, before focusing more on the classical repertoire.

In 2002 Christian became a member of Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, where he later advanced to co-principal.

In 2006 he was appointed principal bassist in the orchestra of the Norwegian National Opera in Oslo. He also regularly appears as principal player in other orchestras, including the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin.

As a chamber musician, Christian has participated in several international tours and has taken part in festivals and concert series in Germany, the UK and USA, including performances at the Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York.
