Jiři Hudec

Jiři Hudec comes from Brno, where he studied double bass at a conservatory and at Janacek Academy under Prof. J. Bortlíček. He graduated from the academy in 1977. In the same year, he joined the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

As well as his work in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Jiři is much sought-after as a chamber player and soloist. He has made a number of recordings for radio (Vaňhal, Bennet, Francaix, Glier, Reiner) and CDs.

In 1999, he performed as a soloist at the Prague Spring festival (a concerto by G. Bottesini). Besides Duo di basso, Virtuozi di basso and Czech Philharmonic Octet, he cooperates as a chamber music player with a number of leading players and ensembles.

He is an professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (UK). A number of his students have gone on to become members of leading orchestras. He also regularly takes part in courses on interpretation of music in Japan, UK (Manchester, Glasgow) France, Germany (Detmold), China (Beijing).
